Penn Park 5K Races & Information

The following information is solely for use by University of Pennsylvania Students and organizations interested in conducting 5K Runs on University property. Please consult the documents below for the proper procedures and course map.


Homecoming 5k

Campus Recreation hosts an annual Homecoming 5K in Penn Park every Fall! The Homecoming 5K is open to the community, and each participant receives a commemorative t-shirt and a goodie bag. Registration is held on runsignup.com. Check out some pictures from our most recent Homecoming 5K in 2018!

    University of Pennsylvania Campus Recreation

    5K Policies and Procedures

    Penn Campus Recreation, through the Intramural Program, will assist in the organization and operation of any 5K utilizing Penn Park. Interested groups should contact Campus Recreation no less than a month away from their intended race date by filling out the form, located below. Availability is determined by the Assistant Director of Intramurals, Programs, and Special Events and will be communicated with the group before any publicity can be approved. Once the date and time are confirmed, the interested group must meet with the Assistant Director to begin planning the logistics of the event. Modifications to the pre-existing course can be made, but only with the approval from Campus Recreation.

    The interested group must adhere to the following protocol/checklist:

    1. Once approved, the race organizer will work with Campus Recreation regarding race logistics, including but not limited to:
      1. Staffing
      2. Equipment
      3. Waivers/risk management
      4. Timeline for setup/breakdown
      5. Sponsors/vendors – must be in line with current contracts through the University and the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics
    2. Any signage must be approved by Campus Recreation and removed immediately after the race.
    3. A minimum of 10 volunteers must be provided by the interested group to act as course marshals/support staff. Campus Recreation does not provide staffing outside of equipment setup/breakdown.
    4. The interested party will be in charge of timing the event. Professional timing services may be used upon approval from Campus Recreation, but at the cost of the interested group.
    5. Campus Recreation does not schedule rain-out dates for any race.
    6. All 5K’s must have a First Aid Station. First Aid Station Must contain:
      1. Qualified personnel to respond to emergencies. Must have at least one person who is either:
        1. Certified in CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer
        2. Certified Wilderness First Responder
    • Contracted by Penn through the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)
    1. First Aid Kit
      1. Can be checked out from Campus Recreation
    2. Access to phone services in order to call Penn Police for life‐threatening emergency
